Welcome to the Garment District!

Fabrics, buttons, buckles, zippers, and headless mannequins cover shops top to bottom. Dozens of women crouch over their sewing machines as the buzz of the machines and sharp snip of scissors fill the room. People rush in and out of buildings focused on finding their supplies, making deals, and working the business. Welcome to the Garment District of New York City.

It is quite amazing the amount of work that goes into every garment and accessory created. My first day experiencing the garment district involved tagging along stopping at several shops each with a vast assortment of items and skills, dropping off patterns and fabrics for the swimwear line, going to the workshop where the hats are molded, and eventually making our way back to Bond St where the final touches, details, and trim are put on every hat. 
The time, energy, people, creativity, skillsets, and craftsmanship it takes to create a single item is incredible and the result is a one of a kind piece that looks great!

We Love: ISABELI FONTANA

The stunningly beautiful Isabeli Fontana appeared on the Peruvian styled April cover of Paris Vogue. The Brazilian model wears a colorful Prada ensemble complete with a fun bowler hat. Fontana has appeared in an earlier issue of Paris Vogue wearing one of Hats by Selima custom designs. We adore Fontana's style and beauty and how she wears gorgeous unique hats to complete great looks!

Handcrafted to Perfection

Each Hat by Selima is individually crafted in a time-consuming difficult process. Entering the New York City based workshop feels like stepping back in time. Beautiful wooden moldings for the hat crowns and brims cover shelves top to bottom as a hot stove in the back bakes each hat to perfection. Every hat is designed for a perfect fit with each material being carefully selected from soft felts and wools to straw and leather. 

New to the lively streets of New York I have had an amazing opportunity to intern with the Selima luxury hat and swimwear line, working with Virginie Promeyrat in her Bond Street studio. Her passion about fashion and creativity in designing these one of a kind luxury hats can be seen as you walk into her office with hats and fabrics covering the walls below the adorable Bond 07 Selima shop and coffeehouse.
